Lela (Yeyatalunyuha) George is from Oneida Nation of the Thames in Southwold, Ontario. She is Mohawk from six nations, registered to the Oneida Nation, residing in London, Ontario with her partner Jordan and their children.

Lela graduated in 2007 from the Personal Support Worker program in St. Catharine’s, Ontario and worked in long term care for most of her career. Lela is now the sole owner of Sacred Mugs & Custom Creations. Her custom made novelty items are available both locally and online. Lela’s goal is to have her own studio where she can create a space for women to connect with art and also provide a safe space to those in need of support.

Lela publicly shares her story and is a strong advocate for youths, who like her, have experienced trauma, addiction and homelessness. Lela believes it is possible to recover and find health and happiness in life if one is willing to do the hard work and is willing to accept the supports that are available. Lela credits Goodwill Industries in helping her to move forward with achieving her goals and finding her road to success.

Lela is a true example of someone who has overcome personal hardship and has proven that there can be a light at the end of the tunnel. She says “You have to go through the dark to get to the light.”
