Dr. Arlene MacDougall is a psychiatrist and an Assistant Professor with the Departments of Psychiatry and Epidemiology & Biostatistics at Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, Western University.

Dr. MacDougall is the Director of Research for the Department of Psychiatry, as well as the Director of Research and Innovation for Mental Health Care at St. Joseph’s Health Care London and Parkwood Institute Research. She leads trans-disciplinary and cross-sectoral educational and research initiatives that apply social innovation approaches for tackling complex mental health system challenges both locally and globally – these are known as London-Middlesex MINDS and Global MINDS @ Western (“Mental Health INcubator for Disruptive Solutions”). She is also an ally in the development of Biigajiiskaan: Indigenous Pathways to Mental Wellness in the London-Middlesex region.

She also studies the use of social entrepreneurism, mindfulness meditation, creative arts and participatory video in promoting recovery from serious mental illness.

Clinically, she provides psychiatric consultation at the Southwestern Ontario Aboriginal Health Access Centre (SOAHAC) and through the Thames Valley Family Health Team as part of a collaborative care model.
