Thank you to everyone who joined us on July 17th to celebrate the Grand Opening of Goodwill Industries, Ontario Great Lakes’ brand-new Community Store & Donation Centre on Wonderland Road South!

The expansive 25,000 square foot location is open year-round seven days a week, and features 16,500 square feet dedicated to second-hand retail shopping, with a convenient “drive thru” drop-off donation centre. With the support of community donations, this site aims to divert up to 3.5 million pounds of waste per year from the London landfill.

This site was built in partnership with the Southside Group in a rapidly growing commercial and residential area. “We are thrilled to be working with Goodwill  Industries again on our third commercial project together. This site showcases what the second-hand shopping experience can be – thrifting in a beautiful space with an endless selection at a convenient location. Our developments are providing what people want and need in a quickly growing community that more and more cares about sustainability,” says Vito Frijia, President of Southside Group.

Goodwill is a non-profit, registered Canadian charity that operates as a social enterprise. Across Goodwill’s network of 27 conveniently located thrift stores and 45 donation centres in Ontario, donors fuel Goodwill’s mission by generously giving clothing, household, and consumer goods, repurposing over 59 million pounds of waste and helping to sustain the environment.

“Goodwill is your destination to shop local, buy Canadian, and make a difference in your community,” says Bev Kobe, President and CEO of Goodwill Industries, Ontario Great Lakes.  “Every purchase or donation at Goodwill helps fund job training programs and employment opportunities for people facing barriers to work. We are incredibly proud to expand our operations in London, creating new jobs, helping community members reduce their environmental impact, and providing families with access to affordable goods.”

As part of Goodwill’s mission, changing lives through the power of work, and its commitment to create jobs for those who have been shut out of the labour market, Goodwill collaborated with the Goodwill Career Centre, Fanshawe College Community Employment Services, Leads Employment Services, London Health Sciences Centre, March of Dimes Canada, Pathways Employment Help Centre, St. Joseph’s Health Care London, WILL Employment Solutions, and Youth Opportunities Unlimited. “At the point of opening, we created 60 new jobs for the community, filling most positions through our partnerships. We are proud to team up with these agencies to help people find work at Goodwill and look forward to continuing these connections as we grow,” says Danielle Greer, Store Manager.

For more than 90 years, Goodwill has served Ontario creating work opportunities, developing skills, and building community for people facing barriers to employment. The organization offers training, benefits, and wellness programs with the aim of graduating employees to a better job at Goodwill or in the community.
