“Every time items are donated to Goodwill, it creates work for people many who face barriers to employment,” says Michelle Quintyn, President and CEO of Goodwill Industries, Ontario Great Lakes. “We are thrilled to be expanding our operations in the Fergus area, creating new jobs and supporting the community to reduce their environmental impact by diverting used goods from the landfill.”

Goodwill is a nonprofit, registered charity that operates as a social enterprise. Since the beginning of the last century Goodwill has existed to create work opportunities, skills development and social integration for people facing barriers to employment such as disability or poverty. On various work platforms including thrift, Goodwill offers training, benefits, wellness programs and other supports, such as scholarships, and job connection with the aim of graduating employees to a better job at Goodwill or in the community.

Goodwill’s mandate is also to provide families access to affordable goods and to support the environment by encouraging consumer reuse and recycling, diverting millions of pounds from landfill each year.
